Crandall is a thriving suburb of Dallas, Texas that is located at the junction of U.S. Highway 175 and Farm roads 148 and 3039 in western Kaufman County. Crandall is eight miles northwest of Seagoville, nine miles west of Kaufman and east of Dallas, and fourteen miles northeast of Terrell.

The pioneer Cornelius F. Crandall arrived in the region from Indiana and purchased 1800 acres of property in 1877. Seeing the advantage of having a rail line through the area, in 1880 he donated some of his lands to the Texas Trunk Line Railway for the construction of the rail line. The arrival of the rail line spurred growth and development and by 1881 the community was granted a post office with Cornelius F. Crandall as the first postmaster. The town soon became the transportation and shipment hub for regional farmers and ranchers. The community was named in honor of Cornelius F. Crandall. By 1884 the community had 50 residents, a church, a school, a cotton gin, and a gristmill. In 1889 the town plat was formally established and the plat was recorded. The growth and prosperity continued and by 1890 the community was home to about 150 people.

In 1901, the city school system was founded and the town had over 250 residents. By 1910 the town was home to a furniture business, several general stores, three medical practitioners, and three banks. By the 1920s, Crandall had fifty enterprises to serve their 750 citizens. The Great Depression years were hard for the town, and the town’s population gradually decreased. The loss of residents and businesses continued during World War II as more people migrated to larger nearby cities for high-paying jobs. Near the end of World War II, the population had dropped to about 500 residents. Over the next 20 years, the community stabilized but saw very little growth or development.

This started to change in the 1980s as Crandall benefited from the explosive growth of Dallas and surrounding cities. By 1988, the community had over 15 active businesses and over 1200 residents. The growth continued and by 1990 the population reached 1,652 in and by the year 2000 the population had ballooned to over 2,700 residents.

The children in the community are educated by the Crandall Independent School District that has eight schools. The schools continued to expand along with the population that increased to over 2,850 people in 2010. Over the next 10 years, Crandall remained in a period of hyper-growth with the population climbing to over 4,000 residents.

Today, Crandall is a vibrant and future-oriented community that covers a total of 4.38 square miles with all the amenities to serve its growing community of over 4,500 residents.
