The town of Haslet is located on Farm to Market Road 156, which is some sixteen miles northwest of Fort Worth in the far north-central region of Tarrant County. The town is also 20 miles south of Denton while bordering the U.S Highway 287, the Alliance Airport, and Interstate 35W.

While reports claim that the town was settled around 1880, emerging information proved otherwise. The first community and major development in Haslet, Texas was in 1883 when the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway were extended through the area.

The first signs of developments in the area after the railway were the opening of the first post office in 1887 and the community’s naming after the contractor that handled the Michigan railroad.

It was nine years later (in 1896) that the first school was opened in the town with just one teacher and 21 students. This community school was called the Haslet School. It was some ten years later before four more students enrolled, bringing the number of students to twenty-five.

Haslet doesn’t have much population, even many decades after the town was discovered. The total number of inhabitants was 67 in 1903. Twelve years later (in 1915), that number reduced by 17, with just 50 people living in the community. It was later in the mid-1930s that the population of the town started to grow, with a reported population of 69 people.

Also, the early infrastructures in the community at the time were mainly stores. During the 1920s, the town of Haslet had just one hardware store with three grocery stores where the inhabitants can buy their groceries. There were also a cotton gin and a dry goods store.

The town owed most of the economic growth to the abundance of jobs available working in factories in Fort Worth that were producing material and goods for the war effort. That, in turn, helped contribute to the population growth to 170 people in the late 1940s.

The population of the town remained at 170 throughout the 1950s and the mid-1960s. However, the population grew to 250 following the incorporation of the town. There was a general spike in the population after then, with 276 persons living in the area in 1970 and a recorded population of 795 by 1990, which signaled a 203.4% population increase. It was at this time that twelve businesses were already operating in the town. The population continued to grow until the year 2000 when 1,134 people were living in Haslet.

The town was incorporated in the mid-1960s with Will Shaw as the first Mayor. Many other Mayors came after him, including J.T. Ringo, Bob Street, Gary Hulsey, and Bob Golden (2009 to present).  Haslet is a Texas City that provides a tranquil setting for families who want to enjoy suburban life but also desire easy access to Fort Worth and everything that a big city has to offer.

Today, Haslet is a growing suburb of Fort Worth that covers 8.94 square miles and has a population of about 2,000 residents.
